I have to bring this up again, since my kids still have 3 weeks of school left, and I'm still dealing with end of the school year madness :)...By the way, I'm glad you had fun in Disney, Jo, but am SUPER jealous that as you were riding rides and having tasty food, I was still doing carpool, and PSG...I digress....
I made these crayon wreaths for the teachers. I made a total of 4, but am sharing just 2...one with the longest name, and one with the shortest name...

What you need:
12" embroidery hoop, or basketry hoop
8" embroidery hoop, or basketry hoop
(instead of the embroidery hoops, you can also use the styrofoam wreaths. I found them a bit thick, so I cut the in half and then painted them. My friend also had a savvy tip and you can cover the styrofoam in a nice clean fabric. Mine were already painted...maybe next year)
box of 64 crayons
ribbon
hot glue
Stickers
Directions: Place the 8" hoop in side the 12" hoop with equal distance between all edges. Arrange the crayons along the 2 hoops. Hot glue the crayons to the hoops.
Tie the bow around the 2 crayons that you want at the top. Create a separate loop and glue the edges together to create the hanging loop. Place as many (or as little) stickers as you like. Personalize with the teacher's name, if you'd like. Super easy :)!

Wow - that is super cute! We are out of school already - but that is a great future teacher gift idea!! I'm going to be sharing this for sure!
ReplyDeleteGreat post! I really enjoy reading your blog posts. Keep up the good work! I'll make sure to vote for you on Top Mommy blogs too. I also wanted to share this link with you and all your followers, because with it being summer now and kids spending more time on the Internet, it is extremely important to make sure they are safe on cyberspace: http://www.azfamily.com/good-morning-arizona/Learn-how-to-keep-your-kids-safe-on-the-Internet-95779219.html
ReplyDeleteDo you mind if I ask what font you used for the teacher names, or did you find alphabet block stickers. Thanks so much. The wreath is just charming.
ReplyDeleteI found the letters at this link, and then resized and made into stickers (thanks to my Xyron sticker maker)...http://www.preschoolcoloringbook.com/color/cpletter.shtml

What a cute idea!!!!
ReplyDeleteI totally made this for my kids' teacher this year. I have triplets, and the two girls of the group are diabetic. I wish I could upload a photo to show you because I had to wing it a bit, things I couldn't find. And I turned it into a clock. Thanks for the great idea!
ReplyDeleteI love making these wreaths, I started doing mine about 3 yrs ago with my boys' kindergarden and 1st grade teacher. It became a tradition for the first day of school and now every teacher in the halls through 2nd grade all have one hanging on their doors. I like to use real school items on the wreaths...like small pencils, tiny glue bottles or glue sticks, those small scissors or even whistles! The only thing I would suggest is to weave some ribbon around the crayons and hoop on the outside(largest) to cover up and glue and hides the gap between the crayons.
ReplyDeleteCan I share your beautiful wreath on my blog? The teachers will be estatic! Check it out and email me if you are interested. Thanks!

Found this on Pinterest. I have 3 teachers this year that I want to make gifts for. This one is a definite. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteI am super excited to make this for my sons' young 4 teacher for a Christmas gift.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your idea. I would love to create one for my daughters teacher. How were you able to color the letters on the wreath? Thanks again
ReplyDeleteHello Mrs. Mack! I just emailed you, but thought this was such a great question I would also answer it here ;)!
ReplyDeleteWe are thrilled that so many people are enjoying the wreath. Above is the link where I found the lettering. I then colored the letters with makers!
I hope this helps!
Please come back for your daily cup of Jo and Shelley!
I have saw several pictures of these on the internet, but yours is my favorite because the spacing looks so much better than most. Is this one the one made from styrofoam or the loops? I am going to try this this coming week, so a timely response would be great. Thank you so much!
ReplyDeleteThanks Ronda! I'll be sending you an email so you have the response in your inbox, but thought I would answer here as well. It's such a great question. The one on the site is the one made with the hoops! Hope this helps!

How did you make the letters for the crayon wreath to spell the teachers name?
ReplyDeleteAre they actual blocks? Or did you make them?
Thanks so much!

Hello I am having difficulty getting my crayons to come out even is there a trick to it??? I haven't glued any I am just trying to get them to be evenly spaced. Thank you so much for your help!
ReplyDeleteLove this wreath!! One question though b/c I am so not crafty. I have put it together and have all but hot glued it down. Is the hot glue enough to hold it all together? There isn't anything else holding the two embroidery hoops together? I'm excited at the prospect of giving this to my son's teacher, but also know that this is the sort of thing that will work for other people and fall apart on me. Any advice is welcome. Thanks so much!! jvoss01@insightbb.com
ReplyDeleteI hope you don't mind, but I shared this idea on my blog, I'm in love with this creation! I hope I gave proper credit to where it came from, please let me know if you'd like me to remove it: http://www.lifewiththestevens.com/2011/12/holiday-craft-week-day-4-crayon-wreath.html
ReplyDeletelove it
ReplyDeleteSo I just made it and was worried it would be hard - but it was simple and fast! About the question above, the glue holds the 2 hoops together fine for me - so far! for the spacing I found that I lined the crayons up so the black line by the point was over the outside hoop, almost centered over it, it kept the middle tight and pretty circular. For the letters I got white foam letters and the contrast from the colorful crayons is so cool! Thanks for the great idea- its a birthday present for my mother-in-law who teaches 3rd grade.
ReplyDeleteLove this! I wanted to let you know that I featured you in my Teacher's Appreciation Gifts round up at: http://printabelle.com/?p=3096

My daughter wanted to make this wreath for her 1st grade teacher for teacher appreciation week. We live in a small town and had to improvise on the hoops since our local hobby lobby was out of stock. I picked up a Floral wire wreath from the floral dept, by the wedding supplies, in about the same size. Flipping it backwards, it gives 2 wires to hot glue the crayons to, and worked perfectly. Thank you again for such a great idea!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for the crafty inspiration! Just made one for my daughters teacher and can't wait to give it to her tomorrow :)
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know where I can get the block letter stickers?!
ReplyDeleteHello...I found the letters at this link, and then resized and made into stickers (thanks to my Xyron sticker maker)...http://www.preschoolcoloringbook.com/color/cpletter.shtml
ReplyDeleteThanks for all the support!

That is very super gift for teacher i like it.
ReplyDeleteWhat if you don't have a sticker maker? How could you make the letters?
ReplyDeleteIf you don't have a sticker maker, you can simply glue them on (I would recommend hot glue vs. glue stick) or find some alphabet stickers. You can find a varied selection of stickers at dollar stores or big box stores. Let us know what you decided to do!
DeleteThank you! I was thinking of just printing them off onto paper then using scrap book matting to make them look 3 dimensional.
DeleteI went to the site you recommended for the block letters, but I'm not quite clear on how you "colored" them. On the website, it looks like they need to be colored by hand. Is this the case or am I missing something on the website? I LOVE this wreathe and can't wait to make it!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
So did you figure how to get the colored block letters. I am confused as well.
DeleteI colored them myself with markers.
DeleteI wonder if hot glue would be able to hold the children's wooden blocks onto the wreath for the teacher's name. Does anyone know? Thank you for sharing this wonderful idea. I am a retired teacher and would have loved to have been given this wreath as a gift. Now I will make one for my granddaughter's teacher. :)
ReplyDeleteWoww. You made me speechless. Thanks alot for the new idea

ReplyDeleteJust wondering if you separated the embroidery rings or used them together as each ring has two parts?
