I made these crayon wreaths for the teachers. I made a total of 4, but am sharing just 2...one with the longest name, and one with the shortest name...
What you need:
12" embroidery hoop, or basketry hoop
8" embroidery hoop, or basketry hoop
(instead of the embroidery hoops, you can also use the styrofoam wreaths. I found them a bit thick, so I cut the in half and then painted them. My friend also had a savvy tip and you can cover the styrofoam in a nice clean fabric. Mine were already painted...maybe next year)
box of 64 crayons
ribbon
hot glue
Stickers
Directions: Place the 8" hoop in side the 12" hoop with equal distance between all edges. Arrange the crayons along the 2 hoops. Hot glue the crayons to the hoops.
Tie the bow around the 2 crayons that you want at the top. Create a separate loop and glue the edges together to create the hanging loop. Place as many (or as little) stickers as you like. Personalize with the teacher's name, if you'd like. Super easy :)!

ReplyDeleteI totally made this for my kids' teacher this year. I have triplets, and the two girls of the group are diabetic. I wish I could upload a photo to show you because I had to wing it a bit, things I couldn't find. And I turned it into a clock. Thanks for the great idea!
ReplyDeleteI love making these wreaths, I started doing mine about 3 yrs ago with my boys' kindergarden and 1st grade teacher. It became a tradition for the first day of school and now every teacher in the halls through 2nd grade all have one hanging on their doors. I like to use real school items on the wreaths...like small pencils, tiny glue bottles or glue sticks, those small scissors or even whistles! The only thing I would suggest is to weave some ribbon around the crayons and hoop on the outside(largest) to cover up and glue and hides the gap between the crayons.

ReplyDeleteLove this wreath!! One question though b/c I am so not crafty. I have put it together and have all but hot glued it down. Is the hot glue enough to hold it all together? There isn't anything else holding the two embroidery hoops together? I'm excited at the prospect of giving this to my son's teacher, but also know that this is the sort of thing that will work for other people and fall apart on me. Any advice is welcome. ReplyDeleteSo I just made it and was worried it would be hard - but it was simple and fast! About the question above, the glue holds the 2 hoops together fine for me - so far! for the spacing I found that I lined the crayons up so the black line by the point was over the outside hoop, almost centered over it, it kept the middle tight and pretty circular. For the letters I got white foam letters and the contrast from the colorful crayons is so cool! Thanks for the great idea- its a birthday present for my mother-in-law who teaches 3rd grade.

My daughter wanted to make this wreath for her 1st grade teacher for teacher appreciation week. We live in a small town and had to improvise on the hoops since our local hobby lobby was out of stock. I picked up a Floral wire wreath from the floral dept, by the wedding supplies, in about the same size. Flipping it backwards, it gives 2 wires to hot glue the crayons to, and worked perfectly. Thank you again for such a great idea!

ReplyDeleteIf you don't have a sticker maker, you can simply glue them on (I would recommend hot glue vs. glue stick) or find some alphabet stickers. You can find a varied selection of stickers at dollar stores or big box stores. Let us know what you decided to do!
